Revised House Plans

Image
Over the past few months Sandra and I have been giving lots of thought to how we would like the final layout of our house to look. You can see from the attached floor plan we have made several modifications; I will highlight them for you: We added a small foyer to the entrance, I like a bit of separation from when you walk into the house. It provides a natural spot to put a closet. We have changed the layout of the master bedroom by extending the wall and moving the closet from the main living space to the foyer. That allowed us to shift the hallway going from the master bedroom to the master bath. It no longer goes through the wic. We changed a bedroom to a den by eliminating a closet in the room. We changed the upstairs bathroom into a powder room and moved it to mud room (I always hated when the powder room was too close to the kitchen or living room. Now I think it provides guests with a little more privacy. We eliminated the third other upstairs bedroom and shifted the kitch...

The House

As I started to discuss a bit in my last post, Sandra and I wanted a bungalow with a walkout basement for our amazing river view. We also wanted an open concept with a big kitchen for entertaining. We looked at a lot of models but many of them were too expensive to build. We wanted to keep our building costs down so we could put more money into the interior of the house. We finally came across the Amberwood by Beaver Homes. It ticked off all the boxes for us. We love the simple design but with anything we wanted to make some changes to the floor plan to help utilize the space. I will include the final plans when they are finished but here is what we started with.

Clearing the land

Well several years later we are now ready to make the move to NB. Our plans are to move in the summer of 2018. We looked at a lot of designs but in the end we decided we wanted an average sized bungalow with a walk out basement. We wanted a fairly simple home that would still look nice but allow us to save on building costs so we could spend more money upgrading the things inside the house. Ok, more on that later, the first thing is picking a builder and home. We found the Amberwood by Beaver Homes and Cottages. It fit all of our needs. Sandra made the trip to the Miramichi Home Hardware and spoke to Guy, she was really happy with the service and all the information he provided. The decision was made. Sam Daigle was highly recommended as a builder. We sat with Sam and told him of your ideas. He came out and looked at our property and gave us some ideas. We really ...

The land

As we were closing in on our retirement, Sandra and I both agreed that we would retire near to her family in Baie Ste Anne, NB. Several years ago (2010) we found a beautiful piece of property on the Bay du Vin River. It was a little slice of heaven, and we knew right from the start that this was where we wanted to live. Here are a few pics of how the property looked when we bought it. We ended up buying 7 acres at a beautiful spot in the river.
