Tidbits

Image
Things are moving along very well, choices are still being made. In some instances we are changing our minds on some things. The garage is coming along great and the septic tank is going in today. We changed our minds on the stone work for the front of the house and we decided to put a wine cooler into the island, who doesn't want a wine cooler. Here are some of the latest pics.

The Kitchen - The heart of the home

Image
Well after some thinking and great collaboration with Paul (our custom cabinet maker), I think Sandra and I have finally decided on the final design of where everything will go. We love the island, it will be 6 feet wide and have white quartz counter top with a medium dark grey cabinet. The counter top for the rest of the kitchen will be grey quartz with white shaker style cabinets. Finally Sandra found a beautiful marble back splash.

New Brunswick - Closer than you think

As the title says, coming home is not that far away. Lots of action has been going on at the house and lots of decisions are still being made. We are very lucky to have such great contractors to work with. I made a trip back to NB to meet with my builder Sam and some of the suppliers. I had a great meeting the Paul (AKA - The cabinet man) and we laid out the plans for the kitchen, I cant believe how big the kitchen is. The house has been framed and the electrical and plumbing is has been started. You can also see that my amazing detached garage is starting to be framed. Here are some of the latest pics.

Chocies

One of the best things about building your own home is that you get to choose all the different things that go into the house, one of the worst things about building a new house is you have to choose all the different things that go into the house! So here is a list of some of the things we had to choose: Cabinets, type and colour; Floors; countertops; backsplash; siding; doors; windows; fixtures; sinks; showers; vanities; lighting; Ok that's a big list and I'm not even covering everything. So here are some of the choices we made: Hardwood floors all upstairs; Vinyl flooring in he basement, with the exception of the bathroom and gym; Quartz countertops with shaker cabinets; We are still struggling with the backsplash.

August Update

Image
Well we are midway through August and things are moving along well.  We are so very impressed with our builder Sam, he has so many great ideas, we are lucky to have him. I hear there is another great builder in the Joyceville, Ontario area named Ed Fitzgerald! - The 12' ceilings look amazing Ed! Such a small world, Joyceville is only about 30 mins at most from our cottage on Lower Beverly Lake. So this week was a busy one, the framers finished up. Windows were going in today and both the plumber and electrician were working at the house. The well was drilled this week as well, they only went down 120' to get 150gpm. So here are some update photos on how the house is looking. Again a big thanks to Allen for dropping by and sending them.
